Sleeve Cutting for Blouse and Suit

Blouse sleeves are mainly of two types:

  2. Designer sleeve

Blouse sleeves are usually short (cap sleeve), elbow-length, or full-length. While cutting blouse sleeves, you will need the following measurements:

  • Sleeve length
  • Sleeve circumference
  • Sleeve depth or armhole depth
  • Sleeve Bicep

Sleeve cutting method:

  1. Fold the fabric (in two layers).
  2. Mark the length and depth of the sleeve.
  3. Make the armhole curved.
  4. Shape the bottom part according to the circumference of the arm.
  5. Add the seam allowance and cut.

Pro tip: Drafting and cutting of sleeves are done in two ways. Deep neck and normal neck in a suit or blouse. Here, we assume the height of the sleeve cap to be 4 ya 4.5 inches in a normal neck. And in the deep neck, we do the cutting as per the formula given below. Be it a suit or a blouse. Different formulas work for both normal neck and deep neck.

Basic formula for sleeve cutting:

  • Sleeve cap height = Chest ÷ 12 + 1.2 inches extra margin (We can increase or decrease it according to the arm hole measurement.)
  • Sleeve = (bust measurement ÷ 6) + 1.2 inches + extra margin (Example: If chest is 36, | 36 ÷ 6+.5 = 6.5 + 1.1/2 inch = 8″). We can increase or decrease it according to the arm hole measurement.
  • Arm round = Armhole round ÷ 2 + extra margin (Example: 16 ÷ 2 = 8 inches + extra margin
  • Sleeve crease = Sleeve roundness ÷ 2 + 1.1/2 extra margin

Using these formulas, you can create precise and professional fitting sleeves.
